Taking The R Word Out Of The Dictionary Poem by Lauren Coles

Dumb, outcast, delusional,
The words I hate to describe disabled people,
People don't want them to be apart of society,
People hide in the closet,
People with disabilities have the same rights as abled bodied people,
We have the same interests in movies,
We listen to the same music,
We like books,
People are looking for acceptance,
People often over look things and don't dig deeper to get to know them,
Employers can't discriminate against anyone but unfortunately some people still do.
If you are reading this imagine what it would be like to be in my shoes,
Having someone help get dressed,
Helping you get in and out of your chair,
Inclusion is a the key for change,
Respect is the word I want to see in the dictionary.
