Terror Is A Synonym Of Fear - Poem by Galina Italyanskaya

Terror is a synonym of fear.
Someone needs to keep your mind in thrall,
Makes you feel: the threat is always near
Grinning on the threshold of your soul,

Slipping through the border of your country,
Bursting through the basement with a bang.
You're not a target for the hunter.
You're just a bullet in the gun.

Maybe not a bullet, but a trigger.
Fear is blind, the shot is just the same.
Easy to release - the bang is bigger,
And the world is breaking into flame.

They expect a judgment of the crowd,
Magic words from us: 'Stand up and fight! '
Truly said, the danger is around,
Yet the fuse is actually inside.

Who is it? I wish I knew the master,
But there is no face under the hood,
Black as night and fatal as disaster,
Taking our lives for good… for good…

Devil's voice will never gain your ear,
If your own reason doesn't fail.
Terror is a synonym of fear.
Don't allow your fear to prevail!

Poet's Notes about The Poem

This poem was written for the international project 'POETRY AGAINST TERROR: A tribute to the victims of terrorism'[eBook], started by Fabrizio Frosini after tragic events in Paris on the 13th of November 2015. But it's dedicated not only to those poor innocents in Paris, but it's my inner reaction to all terrorist acts we met: there were a lot of them in Russia, in the Middle East, in Europe, in America, Africa, and Asia... actually it's a worldwide woe.
It's not a lyrical poem, as you can see, but it's about those things which impressed me deeply. That's why I accepted the invitation to the project to share my thoughts and my attitude with as many people as it's possible.
And now I'm sharing them with you.
If you want to get to know more about our eBook, containing poems by 64 authors from 43 different countries, you can visit our blog:

Of course, you can join our project, if you have a word to share, your word for peace and against terror.
And let's believe that the power of word is more than the power of weapon. I do believe, because the latter is for desperation, but poetry is always searching for hope.

Devil, s voice will never gain your ear
If your own reason does not fail
Terrorism is a synonym of fear
Don't allow fear to prevail- - -Yes, the terrorists want it to strike fear among the people and create chaos. We stand with our reason and don't be cowed down by fear.
Nice poem Galina..Thanks for sharing and contribution towards peace.

Those are my core beliefs too Galina, and they cannot be affirmed too often. Even if we are lost in the violence, our example will stir others to resist evil with good. And fear makes people lash out carelessly, hurting innocent people.
But your image of Fear GRINNING AT THE THRESHOLD OF YOUR SOUL shows how important it is to resist that temptation to strike back with oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Yes. One of the worst features of fear and rage is that innocents can suffer from what you call self-defence or requital.

This insightful poem about terrorism gets to the heart of the strategy of terrorists: FEAR. This six stanza poem lays out the strategy for us in clear yet expressive and poetic language. Stanza one: Italyanskaya explains why fear? Well...because Someone needs to keep your mind in thrall, / Makes you feel: the threat is always near Stanza two then explains how they do it, by slipping across borders without anyone noticing, but then bursting through your basement with a bang'! The next two lines are the most compelling and also poetic for me: 'You're not a target for the hunter./ You're just a bullet in the gun.' The rhythm and the cadence of the words flow authoritatively, and the meaning of the words speak volumes. We aren't the target...we are the bullets! They use US to spread their fear and terrorism. The third and fourth stanzas expand on this theme illustrating how terrorists use our responses of violence and fear against us. She writes, Fear is blind, the shot is just the same./ Easy to release - the bang is bigger, / And the world is breaking into flame. The fifth and six stanzas are used to discuss, who is the terrorist and how do we understand them, and how do we fight back without being a bullet in their gun? The answer is more of a question. She writes: Who is it? I wish I knew the master,
But there is no face under the hood, / Black as night and fatal as disaster, ./ Thus, we are left wondering. We can't define the terrorist. The final line completes the poem with a simple answer to a complex problem: Terror is a synonym of fear./ Don't allow your fear to prevail! Do not fear. Thanks for your well written poem Galina.
