The Anorexic Model Poem by Paula Glynn

The Anorexic Model

Throwback 90's grunge
Fashion models smoking their dirty cigarettes
Taking illegal heroin and getting drunk
The fashion magazines advertising
Their anorexic clothes and heavy makeup.

Anorexic models in the then-time music charts
Music videos selling pumped up and rebellious
For teenage years and young adulthood
The public told the way to be modern
Artistic photography glamorizing drugs.

But this to change slowly
The fashion industry attracting clean living
Cigarettes no longer in fashion for a time
Alcohol there for all told to socialize with
Having a good time with friends and family.

And the legacy of anorexic models
Do continue on with diet adverts in the media
With everything the diet industry needs
To sell their weight loss programmes and fad diets
Many women told skinny is better.

Now larger women promoted by public opinion
The public pushing with much force
The rise of the Internet a driving force for free thinkers
Where many are no longer alcoholic drinkers
Their memories of 90's fashion magazines just that.
