The Awakening Of The Self To The Divine Reality, Poem by Dr. Antony Theodore

The Awakening Of The Self To The Divine Reality,

Rating: 5.0

The awakening of the Self
to the consciousness of Divine Reality,
is marked by intense feelings
of joy and exaltation.

In the experience of the presence
of the Divine Reality,
the Self comes to the realization
of its own imperfection
and the manifold illusions
in which it is immersed.

hi, tony! in the time i had this morning i wanted to read something uplifting, wanted to read and think about the most important things, so i came to your poems and, more specifically, to this one. it reminds me of an experience i had years ago, and i'm wondering if it's what you describe here. i hadn't been a christian long at the time and was newly married and sitting alone on a cushion in our living room of the first apartment we had together when suddenly, without anything to precede it (that i remember) , i saw that everything i did- my best-intentioned, my most altruistic- was stained by my self-seeking, my selfishness, my ego. (i understood also that this is how it is for all of us.) simultaneously i saw, i understood, that even so, even so, i was accepted, loved by God, as i was. it lasted only a moment. but it was so piercing i sobbed for joy with this realization. and to this day i credit this experience to making me know (in the intimate biblical sense of knowing) what grace is. indeed, such moments are our moments of clarity, of seeing truly, and in contrast our everyday perception falls on a continuum of the illusory. may God grace us to really see and stay true to this sight. glen
