The Children Of Cain Poem by Eric Cockrell

The Children Of Cain

it has always been
inherently taught,
said without saying,
in this country,
(and i'm sure in others)
that killing someone
of a different nationality,
a different race, a different faith,
as an act of war,
is not murder...
but it is!

i'm probably not as passive
as i should be...
if someone breaks in your house,
and threatens you family,
i say fight back.
if someone tries to rob you,
fight back.
if someone rapes your wife,
or your daughters,
fight back!
but know every action
has a consequence!

if going to war is economically
profitable, if it allows you
to spread your form of government
by force, if you're doing it
in the name of your god....
it's murder!
and you dont have much of a god!

ask the Native Americans!
we've killed more of them
than Hitler killed Jews...
yet he was a demon,
and we are the land of the free?
c'mon now!

all people are people.
all that live are sacred!
and we, the children of Cain,
cannot lie to ourselves anymore!
