The Constructive Debate Poem by Prem Nizar Hameed

The Constructive Debate

Rating: 5.0

An egg from the fridge fell flat
on the floor, breaking its ribs;
Before the in-house police
Came to register the case,
I took its flattened body
To waste bin in the kitchen;
But, the witness, my daughter,
Started her arguments soon:
'That egg had a bright future,
If only it was alive'

'The frozen egg cannot hatch'

'The egg's future not only
depends upon hatching, but
also it can fill certain
Positions in its life here'

'Positions? What do you mean? '

'It could have been a bullseye,
a half-boiled egg, full boiled egg
An omelette, an egg roast,
an egg curry, A part of
cake, an associate of
fried rice, a silent partner
of sweet meat or so and so'

"And could have been used at …
If it was a rotten egg"

"Yes, sure, thanks for addition"

I kept mum for preventing
subject from deviation,
else she would have jumped into
conclusion that the egg had
jumped from fridge by depression!

'Hello, why you keep silence? '

'You started the debate and
you can now close it also'

I sat on the nearest chair
Affirming in the mind that
a new channel anchor or
analyst is on the way

(The constructive debates are essential to reform the society, whereas the destructive debates are detrimental to the society)
