The Dream Poem by John Leroy Maxwell

The Dream

A beautiful dream that faded so fast
The present and future, but now merely past
To love and to honor, our hearts to entwine
For me, you said only; and yours I was thine
For what is the reason, it did not ensue
You told me mine only, and always be true
I did not, nor venture to some other love
But worry and wonder, the wings of my dove
You flew away yonder, to some others arms
No thought of my longing, no thought for my charm
For each one possesses a heart, you must know
Not tear it to pieces, after setting aglow
A dream may be ended, unhappy so long
But this be my heritage, so lonely, but strong
You spared not a moment, my soul to depress
And always your feelings, for me but to guess
For me, you unwanted, your love another has felt
But how do you feel, the blow you have delt
