The Invisible Man Poem by Matthew Henning

The Invisible Man

Seeing your face sets my heart ablaze
burning passionately, just for you, but,
To you, I’m invisible
To me, you’re unmissable
and it shatters me to pieces every time you look my way.
Your smile makes me want to cry,
and sing,
and tear out my hair all at the same time,
but I only smile back.

How it must feel to be loved by you
to drown in your eyes
and never want to breathe again.
How it must feel
to succumb to your kiss
and never let go.
How it must feel
to feel your hand in mine.
You’re my Superman,
but I’m just a bystander.

And I wish I could find the words
to tell you how I feel
but I think the only thing that would come out
are nonhuman sounds, and shouts
muddling together because
my feelings for you are inexpressible.
“I Love You”
I whisper silently
in my mind.
because your grip on me
grows tighter each day
and by now
I can barely breathe.

Matthew, I've just read all of your poems, and whether you realize it or not, you are blessed. You are allowing IT to express ITSELF through you leaving beauty on the page. I'm now 70 and I too began expressing myself through poetry in my mid-teens. Love whatever you perceive God to be. Love Truth every bit as much. In loving both equally, mankind shall be blessed by the poems you channel and you shall be ever remembered. Cheers!

Excellent line...To you, I'm invisible To me, you've unmissable... We have all be invisible, at one time or another...and with that in mind, you must learn to be sure not to become the one who makes somebody else feel invisible....eventually there is a sweet someone...who sees you for all the things you are...and then...the rest of the world becomes invisible! ! Patiently wait...it does happen! ! PEACE
