The Old Banyan Tree Poem by Akham Nilabirdhwaja Singh

The Old Banyan Tree

Rating: 5.0

The old banyan tree
Growing on the green meadow
By the side of the lonesome village road,
Long ago in my childhood
I saw my grandfather cremated under it.

Many years gone
My father also died years ago
Today I am an old man.
Yet that banyan tree still growing
In its grandeur as I saw
In my childhood.

My father migrated in the town
and I was born there.
But whenever I visited the village
Where my father born
And saw that banyan tree
I remembered the day
My grandfather cremated under it.

Akham ji, this is such a beautiful poem. The Banyan tree is so imposing and majestic. You have seen it grow and it brings nostalgic memories. To be buried under a Banyan tree is so noble. A wonderful poem, dear Poet.......10
