The One That Got Away Poem by Laquory Jones

The One That Got Away

Nothing will ever stop me from loving you
As I look into your azure blues
Oh what a sunlight view
I hold every word the honest truth
Just then the wind begins to blow
Then doves flew
Nothing could stop me from gushing
All over you, you would smile then I
Began smiling too just two lovebirds
With no freaking clue about love
But what do they know about us
At night I would be spilling out my plain
Guts, Oh Richie you're just plain nuts
The elders would say it was all lust

Giving the relationship two months
Before it all would turn to dust
But Richie do what you feel you must
Perhaps all of this is too much
Telling myself there's no breaking us
Up because what we have is all trust
We'll make it its to the moon or bust

Letting my words embed themselves
Deep inside your core the moment
You said "yes" I was blatantly overjoyed
Emotional internal feelings that
Could no longer be ignored
I began to wonder what our marriage
Had in store not one could see a pending
Divorce praying to God that he spare us
His sword loving you blindly with
Tremendous force your beauty was its
Common source your love turned out to
Be nothing of the common sort

Alexa, play Phil Collins I'm in too deep
Not knowing at all that it could
All fall in one blazing heap
While sitting back doing double takes
Thinking about every vowel that
We'll make on our wedding day
Taking each letter to our graves
You had cold feet you would later say
All that time we had been engaged
Now I'm forced to flip that page
Perhaps in the end you'll be the
One that got away (You Got away)
