The Rain, The Hurricane! Poem by Bernedita Rosinha Pinto

The Rain, The Hurricane!

Rating: 5.0

Many in the whirlpool of anguish get besieged
when the homes they dwell in, get submerged in waters deep;
no army, no soldier, no bullet, no gun can prevent nature
from what it has to do and it's consequences;
the rising sun, the silent moon, the noisy sea waves
merge in the acceptance of salient changes in weather
as seasons keep changing weather keeps befriending humanity;
as ocean keeps rolling, tomorrows keep vanishing;
but when storms and floods confront our earth
man panics, his sense of belonging he forgets
he runs in a frenzy of flight, trying to escape the havoc;
in pursuit of his safety and survival, he searches for shelter,
he hunts for solace, he weeps for the home he has lost;
he then looks at others around him and feels a comfort in knowing
others are equally anguished, equally troubled;
his remorse then drowns in the knee-deep waters,
the rain on his forehead drips away his tears
he looks around, finds everything sinking, gone
but as he wades thro the waters, he believes,
he reconciles, he chooses to re-construct his future
differently, cautiously, his heavy heart keeps pounding
while he is sleeping without a bed or pillow;
there are others like hm in the make-shift camp
they share the same pain, the same helplessness;
the insensitiveness of nature's fury beckons them
to a humbleness so distinct, they realize
courage is so unknown to the child
who is fast asleep in his mother's arms
they look at him and gain calmness.
Man has no choice but to circumvent his transition
thro every catastrophe which he encounters
for what is projected by havoc or turbulence
is also a language of nature
whether it is thunder or lightening
whether it is a storm or a hurricane,
whether it is a strive over struggle
whether it is nature's fury abrupt of mercy.
