The Ring Of Fire Poem by Aniruddha Pathak

The Ring Of Fire

Rating: 5.0

It's no mean wonder indeed
That such a small satellite
Can wholly obliterate
From view a mighty Sun with a unique deed—
For howsoever a small time,
For, it enjoys a place so prime—
Not too far to become too cold,
Nor yet too close to get scorched,
Tilted just right in heavens
Ah to give us beautiful seasons.

And a lovely moon,
Earth's sole boon,
With charming phases
Marvelling us as is.

And what a ring of fire
Around Sun, the mighty sire
Caused by moon, the tiny wonder,
It leaves us to ponder…

O Mother Earth,
I marvel at your worth,
So unique art thou,
Pray accept our grateful bow.

The annular eclipse of the sun happened today, and I was lucky to watch it at Bangalore with naked eyes (a thing not normally done) , thanks to some grayish soft clouds in the sky. Earth is too small compared to the sun, moon is even smaller, but their distance is so ideal, the moon can cover sun completely for a few minutes. At times it is placed such that the outer edge of the sun alone is visible, giving a glowing ring of fire showing sun's coronas. In this universe there are many suns/stars and many a planet. But none can come anywhere near Earth so well, so
unique combination of features the planet enjoys. It is so sad even then man is not grateful enough to his Mother Earth.

What a wonderful poem about the Earth, Moon and Sun. So beautifully and vividly described at the exact time of occurrence. The closure lines are wonderful thoughts of gratefulness. An excellent and informative write. Onto my Poem List.

Some poems come to you like pulsating rivers in spate, some come to your gate and for a while wait, you welcome it, try and chisel it a bit to placate, hesitant at first, she comes in sooner or late. Thanks for the good words dear poet, and my good wishes for the coming New Year.
