The River, The Home Poem by Cigeng Zhang

The River, The Home

Rating: 4.8

The river flows away
Home drifts away
A flossy day of May is coming
Mother not returning
Wild reeds turn red
My swollen eyes, teary red
Begonia petals like butterflies
Flapping their young wings
I want to take off with them
Fly up to find mother's home

Begonia petals like butterflies Flapping their young wings - - - Beautiful imagery...又到了落花时节,爱花的人难免伤感。

This is a wonderful Poem of Remembrance. It is expressed with sensitivity and dignity, especially dignity. Your sense of loss is unmistakable but what comes through is the bond of love the two of you had. Such tender emotions can only come from a genuine bond of mother-daughter love. There are no shadows here and there is sufficient sunshine in your words to make spring flowers bloom. Nothing I can say will assuage your grief. And I would not try to do that. But if my words can carry just a tiny part of that burden of grief for you they will have done a good service. Your title is eloquent: The Home is the site of your mother-daughter rapport; the River carries its memory as it flows on and on.

Great piece! Vivid imagery and metaphors (in fact metaphor within a metaphor in your 7th line): you brought intense emotion to the word longing and what else can create this feeling more than mother? Thank you for sharing, Cigeng.
