The Silent Beggar Poem by Sandra Martyres

The Silent Beggar

Rating: 5.0

He stood quietly by the door,
Every bit of clothing he possessed he wore
He was a pathetic sight
He brought human misery to light
His dark brown eyes said it all
There was no need for any begging call.

But they just pretended
That on them he had not descended
It was as if he did not exist
They passed by ignoring his open fist
Has the world become so terribly uncaring
That we can pass a poor man with such daring?

it's so easy not to see them. ain't it a shame...until we are one of them. un-employed or fired into the possibility of physical & mental homelessness. this poet knows about that.

in india it is a routine sight...so i think it goes unseen...as you saw in 'slum dog' it has even become an organised industry in india..there was a tamil movie 'naan kadavul' which brought out this in full....if you ask me iam not fully moved...not always...a physically impaired or really aged orphans is ok...young boys...mother and baby really irritates me...i think the government should do something..but if their intent is to pull more into the street what can we do

Unfourtunatly, yes, we as a whole have hardened our hearts to the less fortunate. As said before, untill it happens to you or someone you know, we may never know just how hard it is to live from day to day on the streets. Thanks for the read. 'Keep on inking the Pages' Poison

Oh, that's very good. I like it. Simple, but with an interesting intensity. A silent accusation - for all of us. It kind of makes me sad. Expressive....
