The Sting Poem by Unnikrishnan Sivasankara Menon

The Sting

Rating: 4.2

The sting
of a butterfly
conspicuous
by its absence.

Butterfly!

Unlike bees and wasps
it does not need one,
for it has no hive full
of little ones to feed,
to protect and safeguard.

Butterfly!

It's babies,
Caterpillars,
camouflaged by
and feed on
young leaves.

COMMENTS OF THE POEM

Caterpillars have many sting like hairs and as they are ugly in appearance, no need of sting.Beautifully crafted.

Ugly to our eyes. But it is dear food for many birds and small animals like cats. In some parts of the world, it is a favourite dish for man too. So, even ugliness is relative, Nabakishore
