This Unholy Road... Poem by Eric Cockrell

This Unholy Road...

Rating: 2.8

</>
this unholy road....
we walk, strangers,
even to ourselves...

battling demons,
most of our own conceptions,
grasping, groping, hungrily

taking what we can,
more than we need,
or could ever want.

falling down, pushing aside,
we stagger, drool on our chins....
say a quick prayer,

hope for the best....
close our eyes to those around us.
raising the banner of self,

suddenly we look up,
to find time and age at the door.
afraid of the dark,

of the long unending night....
we try to pray, and
cant remember how....

this unholy road
takes many as victims....
will we fall with the darkness,

or do we dare,
to step into the light,
and let go of the lie!
