Thoughts - Poem by Joshua Taylor

How can you tell if someone truly cares for you?
A question I have spent a lot of time thinking through

Is it what they say that shows real affection?
Words easily come and go and therefore aren't an accurate reflection

Is it the way they react to what you do that shows that they are genuinely fond?
If so, wouldn't the reply come first rather than be an effort to respond.

Is it the way they are when around you that displays that you mean a lot?
Perhaps but they may be a different person when in your company they are not.

So its not in what they say,
That could change every other day.

Its not in what they reply,
To keep from hurting you it could be a little white lie.

Its not the connection you have when its just the two of you together alone,
Because things may be different when you are on your own.

How can you tell if someone truly cares for you?
Its the effort they put in without being pushed to.

Its what they do at the key moments and the way they act,
Thats shows to you if they really care, as a matter of fact.
