To The One Who 'Ones' - Poem by Michael Shepherd

Sometimes I wonder what it's like
to be you - eagerly seeking out
new poems of mine and of some others, too;
triumphantly scoring them a 1,
or if they're scored already 10,
then, zap! it's down to 5.5;

or if it's already so enjoyed, it's scored two 10s,
zap! got it down to 7.0...
have a go at this one, while
it's still unscored...
the superscription calls it 'user rating' -
how can you rate it when you've haven't 'used' it?
just abused it? (You'd score it 0
or -10 if they allowed it...)

what really saddens me is that
you can't distinguish between
a bad poem and a bad poem about goodness..
so when you 1 my next poem, does that signify
the narrowness of my mind, or of yours?
Sometimes I wonder if you write
poetry of your own; and whether
your poetry improves, or worsens,
as you demote on your own private scale,
the poems of others...?
Now that's a serious thought.

    An excellent poem on a subject that needed to be addressed. Even Tara below was attacked for months by one or several [for I don't know whom] who didn't like the fact that she had so many comments and tens and actually sent emails to us telling us what he/she/they were going to do]....I just removed the option for myself...It's not just good, real poets, like yourself, not just people like me who are putting feelings in writes, they're also or he or she for a coupel months taking away ip votes by the hundreds for many on site....In the matter it won't matter, for they're only just numbers. What will matter is the quality of poets like you and so many excellent writers here who will be read long after their gone to another life...The numbers on this site are a mess and so not accurate...The well known and ever so good poets should be on that first page not new ones like myself....thanks for this write...For what it's worth, 'a number does not define ANYONE's worth' though apparently one or many here seem to think so...They ONE Aldo like it's a mission...He may not be great but he pours all he has into what he believes to be good and some of it is but over and over he is oned. marci. :) (Report)Reply

    Well, in spite of your plea for the Oner to one this one...I won...cause I tenned it first!

    What a pitiful, desperately bitter person the real Oner is....but I can tell you one thing about IT...when you discover a green person walking about, that will be your Oner...because IT is so jealous that ITS whole person is green. And not a nice, leafy shade of green...but the putrid, scummy yellow/green shade of pond scum.
