He wrote, with a bitter-sweet hand
of the darkness ingrained in man
From truth, his words flowed
With passion, his mind glowed
With a burning pen, he wrote
of the things forbidden
In beautiful words, he told
of the ugliness beneath the skin
His voice was loud and firm
about the realities grim
Nothing but truth, he believed
However naked it might be.
Awesome tribute to a revolutionary write who changed the dynamics and set his own trend for others to follow.
Yes an era of short story telling, He was unique among others and all you have said is true. he wrote dark, ugly and exposed. beautilful tribute
It sounds like Manto spoke truth to power, a phrase first used to describe Vaclav Havel and his writing against the communist regime in the Czech Republic. He was too popular for them to kill so they put him in prison often and he would write a new book which was published as soon as he was released. Eventually the Communists fell from power and Havel became the first elected President. Isn't that a great story of success? I thought it would be a good parallel to the tragic case of Manto.
Though I don't know this writer yet your presentation exhibits great and heartfelt tribute to him. Penmanship is nice.
A very heartfelt tribute to Manto. His short stories often landed him in court cases. He presented his own defense and was exonerated in all these cases. Such was his conviction. His letters to Uncle Sam and Pandit Nehru present his satirical side. His mini stories collected in 'Siyah Hashiye' presented the hypocrisy of communal forces in the backdrop of Partition. Toba Tek Singh' written by him remains one of best short stories known in the sub-continent in post 1947 era. Thanks for the poem, Nosheen.
