Unexpected Presence Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Unexpected Presence

More unexpected.
Yet overwhelmingly effective.
Is presence.
And not the rumor of it,
Left to creative imaginations.

Leaving no one left to guess,
Imagine or wonder.
Who it was that began the fuss.
Over what it was,
Everyone should suspect not to trust.

Although heard to hear,
Over an approving and cheering crowd.
Beginning to show their anger and disgust.
By an ignorant few arguing.
And amongst themselves.
About what they heard and nothing else.

"Who...
Are those people,
In the middle of the floor.
For no other purpose,
To grab attention to get it.
No one can if they wanted to ignore.
Who are they? "

-Reliable liars.
And dependable neighborhood gossipers.
Showing up to prove,
Their presence makes all the difference.-

"A difference?
A difference made to prove a doing of what? "

-They are together and united.
In a kept communal confrontation.-

"And this to prove,
Benefits who? "

-The attention to get for themselves.
And the process of a progress this makes.-

"Uh..."

-Don't say it.
The better it is to leave,
It could be possible to imagine.-
