Unrequited Poem by Obinna Kenechukwu Eruchie

Unrequited

Ne'er in one I've seen such peace;
my soul drowns in decrease.
Vain like a loaded lighter
to light a void cooker,
love-shown shots I did produce
has upon you no use.
Then I resorting to tame
and to contain this flame;
to you from within my heart.
It stays, fails to depart
defying my will, and glows
as a warm blazing rose.
Despite will summoned to come,
this stubborn warmth yields sum.
How can this effect be true?
Loving you saps me, blue
that my heart's suffocated
by you who warmed it red;
your denial does it more
with eyes not at mine; for
your eyes themselves will ne'er be
those I so wish to see
as eyes with heart, which returns
to me the same that burns.
The same if ne'er to be met,
then let I free be set
from my heart's fire that I pray,
or bear it let fate play
its duty in time's passage
as my life runs its stage.
