Valentine In Japan Poem by Elena Sandu

Valentine In Japan

Had you known
that in Japan
On Valentine,
the men are those to have
the present as
sweets or chocolate! (*_*)
Given by the women
to friends or coworkers,
under this name:
'giri' chocolate.
If given to the only chosen
one to express own love
'honmei' is called.
In March 14 then,
time for women
to get presents,
red carnations
are in fashion
but case by case
could have
from the tiny seeds
of flowers
to about anything,
sometimes depending
on man's pocket
and the woman's wish.
Don't take me wrong
Most women are very happy
with the flowers or the sweets.
Let us all
(men and women) have
some lovely hand made
chocolate, clap and dance
on the happy rhythm
of today's feast!

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Valentine day is not a traditional celebration, yet it is very nice to have a thank you gesture for the loved ones. Many children learn to bake cookies or to make chocolate truffles because of this day. I am not crazy for the commercial side so I try to encourage the hand made presents. (it is more tasty by being mixed with a speck of love)

Good poem. Yes, hand made ones are much better, I think. Well, to tell the truth, I haven't been given chocolates these 10 years or so! Even giri ones!
