Wants And Happiness. Poem by Nabakishore Dash

Wants And Happiness.

Whose body has turned
black for not using soaps,
Creams, facewash, body wash?
Can crow be white if it
tries it's best?
How many such things
does a swan require to
to keep its body white
and fresh?

Which beauty cream
and lipsticks are
used by peacocks to
enhance its beauty?
But many differently
coloured lip-glosses, creams
are available in bazars
for man's utility.

We use scents and
deodorants before
going to party and
attend meetings.
Do others come closer
to smell and inhale
our bodies?

Mobile phones, television,
home theatres and like
gadgets were not invented
for our predecessors.
But didn't they enjoy lives
far better than ours?

Courts, laws, police, military,
constitutions are there
for keeping discipline and
solving our squabbles.
Animals other than
humans also fight,
disagree, but don't need
any lawyer and police.
Losing a case in court
makes man unhappy,
vindictive.

Honey bees and ants need
few things for
their survival.
But they are happy, eusocial.

Very few needs are
essential for living.
we spend much of our
finance in purchasing
unessential things.
Unable to possess makes
us heart-broken beings.

Do the possessions
we buy make us happy?
Money can never buy
love, peace, happiness
and sleep.
Comforts and happiness
have inverse relationship.
Our exhibitionism of
happiness to others
increases our cost of
living and makes us
melancholic.
