Fathers, sons, brothers
Mothers, daughters, sisters
War did come and war did take
Followed by a mournful wake
The sounds of people screaming, dying
Horses puking, children slaying
Lonely soldier marching onward
Burdened bodies moving forward
Carmine ground, twisted earth
Human life devoid of worth
Fire and ash rained all day
Much to the warriors' growing dismay
"For king and country", came a spirited cry
Young, wide-eyed troopers did not know why
When all that beckoned was doom and gloom
The trumpet sounded with a thunderous boom
When all that transpired was said and done
Mistress death with reapers come
Troopers sprawled with transfixed eyes
Seemed like death was playing dice
What honor does this fate entail?
When all we do is always fail
Brave utterances set aside for sober reflection. An insightful piece of poetry nicely embellished in poetic rhyme and rhythm. Thanks for sharing Najibur.
