The memories engulf him.
Thoughts take him right back there.
It was D Day 1944,
As they sailed up to a foreign shore.
Courage was so needed at this moment.
They had a job to do,
But were only human beings,
Just like me or you.
Upon the beaches of Normandy,
Many died that day.
Fathers, sons and brothers,
And to those who survived,
That memory,
Never goes away.
Comrades in arms,
Comrades in death.
At Bayeux War Cemetery,
Many were laid to rest.
For on this anniversary,
The eightieth since that day,
We salute you brave heroes.
Your courage shall not be forgotten,
Your presence shall not be in vain.
You fought for our brighter tomorrows,
Through fear,
Through hardship,
Through pain.
