We want people to behave,
be courteous, humble and suave.
When it comes to us,
we are proud, complaining, irritated,
and always with a sullen face.
We want people to be cooperative,
obedient, helping, and proactive.
When it comes to us,
we’re so selfish, thinking only of the self,
and unmindful we never care to help.
We want people to love beyond skies,
and look through others’ eyes,
When it comes to us,
we want to heedlessly lead, not serve,
blaming others for all the fuss.
We want people to be honest, upright.
Can we tolerate in it a variance slight?
When it comes to us,
we are over-smart, manipulative, cunning;
others are watching, it doesn’t ring.
There are two standards:
one for ourselves and one for others,
though hardly ever we agree,
we stick to our guns and rather
help them to continue further.
What we do for others,
the others will do for us.
This is a very simple equation:
can’t we understand?
“‘I’m too smart”; yet we always think;
our acting as dumb, however, doesn’t sink.
But for a change,
On a scale of 10, you yourself rate,
On the basis of what you want to give, and get;
and be what you want others to be-
and a great breakthrough in life
you will undoubtedly see!
You will never regret I bet;
this is undeniably a powerful fact.

this is the real fact of what we called civilized society and modern life. Take all you can have but leave nothing. It is very suitable to crictic man-made behavior since selfishness and individual value become core of up-to-date man character. I pray that i will not fall in that category but i know a lot of people out thare will not give anything for nothing. They alway come with terms and conditions and expectations. very well done. This is very details social critics poem and you are good on that. 10+ for this one. i like it
'Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.' -is the proverb, a golden rule.The poem illustrates the contradictions in our daily life, and the consequences: 'What goes around, comes around.' We cannot be the God, but we can certainly try to go near him by continuously improving ourselves. Thanks Rajaram Ramachandran for your thought- proving comment.
The wishes to be an ideal man are welcome, but rarely we find one like this role model. A good poem to read.
Me want.. does not always get! Agree with Almedia here. WE live in a ME, MYSELF and I, society. WE need to humble ourselves and learn brotherly love and servanthood, one to another. Excellent poem; D
This is the simple truth about humanity of being ungrateful to one another. We have a double standard and you're right. In other words there is discrimination in social status, color or race, education, religion, ideology, etc. This is a nice one, well done. Thumbs up for you 10+
Shaw's quote- (Contrary to Biblical saying do unto others what you want them to do you) Dont do unto others what you want them to do........may be they may not like it.............sarcasm.........humour..........
Oe cant expect the mirror to lie....similarly one cant expect the world to change without changing himself/herself Too see a change be the change 10 +
hey i am the 4th one who rated this 10... it's worth it!
It is so true we apply different standards to ourselves than to the others. We judge quickly others but we are more relaxed when it comes to our proper sins. It is a real shame. You touched the subject that it is actual of every second of our lives. We spend lives on different reactions. Emotionally, we react to everything. We would have paradise on earth if everyone would do as he wants to be done to him/her. Very good poem!
This poem has not been translated into any other language yet.
