If your soul is mean and vile
And your mind is deeply stained,
If you have a bogus smile,
Wear a mask and you are saved.
If your friend, who gives you all,
Without mercy is betrayed,
If your soul is really small,
Wear a mask and you are saved.
If you know that in your life
You have lied and misbehaved,
If you can't get rid of strife,
Wear a mask and you are saved.
If a person you have met
About you will want to ask
Open up, but don't forget
To keep on your daily mask.
5 Stars full for this fantastic poem. Indeed WEAR a mask!
welcome to PH. I feel there is a hidden message, which i'll not try to figure out. I like the poem. ;) bri
To me, a 'heathen' since my early 20s, saying 'wear a mask and everything will be ok/forgiven' is like saying 'believe in God, ask for forgiveness, and you can do all the sinning you want to do'.
Does it fall into the category of ridicule, sarcasm, etc.? I'm not good at defining symbolism and other not-straightforward language at times.
I believe you are making fun of the use of a mask. I thought it humorous in any case; you COULDN'T be serious, COULD you?
Reviewing my previous comment, I've realized I could have said much more in 2021; I don't know why i did not. : )
Ok, I somehow noticed a thankyou from you, I think sent by you more than a year ago, for a comment I made on one of your poems Wear A Mask. So here I am again. Now I've rated it 5 stars and a favorite, an almost unheard of move on my part.
I'm sorry I was not able to answer sooner to your comments. I was having a rather rough time in my life, so somehow I abandoned poetry. But I assure you that I enjoyed your comments and I'm feeling grateful that you took your time to read my rhymes. Thank you again!
