Wells Poem by Bill Cantrell

Wells

To me a poem is but a well
from which to take a drink
To quench minds that are thirsty,
such waters make us think
Some wells are rather shallow,
with waters very sweet
Others are a journey,
where thoughts run very deep

I have tasted bitter waters,
of loved ones lost in death
I have tasted tears of happiness
of babies first crying breath
I have drank from wells until empty,
Only later to realize,
was an ocean with no bottom,
yet, hidden from my eyes
I have enjoyed the wells of others,
of emotions just and true
As for me, my wells are open wide
and I offer them to you
