What Kind Of Tea? Poem by Jim Yerman

What Kind Of Tea?

Rating: 5.0

I was distracted by the headlines
when the waitress came to me
and asked the simple question
"Sir, would you care for a cup of tea? "

I thought it over for a moment then answered,
"Why yes, do you have integrity?
If not, I'd love a steaming cup…
of generosity."

I didn't stop to think if my humor was taking its toll
How could I? for at that moment I was really on a roll…

"Do you have charity…or honesty? "
or equality? " I mused.
"Or how about some humanity? "
and here the waitress looked confused.

No wait, surprise me." I said with a smile...
use your creativity…
"I can't wait." I said as she walked away
"To see what tea she brings to me! "

Well…it was clear I had misjudged her…
that she didn't share my jocularity...
as we were escorted from the restaurant
when she brought security.
