When The Crystal Breaks Poem by Isak Boyd

When The Crystal Breaks

Losing a love is losing each and every love

Within that moment, when the glass drops
and the crystal breaks
and all you knew or hoped to become
gets lost in a thicket of regret,
You go deeper

You sail into the corners of your heart and
dock at the port of each old flame.
She greets you and takes your hand
She's the same as you remember
Loving, smiling, filled with the joy of us.
The what if's, could haves
I'm so sorry's gobbled up by time.

'Allow the winds of heaven to
Dance between Us, ' she says.

The bond we shared
destroyed by bullshit and reality,
remains intact, inside the lining of our bones
never shifting or changing.

A Love that creates its own universe,
Is a Love forever.

She kisses me on the forehead
as the mast catches the wind.
'Remember to love with everything, '
she screams at me from the landing.
'With your toenails and elbows.'
My heart sinks

The child of 19, becomes the boy of 27,
then the man of 32.
Each one holding their battered heart in their hands.
Pulsating with unbearable pain.
yet they carry on
like an embattled sea captain.

To neither make it right,
nor make it just.
Just to be,
again.

One last time.
