Where Was I? Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Where Was I?

God?
Besides You,
Ever present in my life.
I would like to know,
Who else was there...
Giving me what I wanted.
To receive all of my life.
And I did nothing but sit back,
With a doing to do nothing.
As I have heard this repeatedly said.
Without me being aware of it.

God?
You've made my blessed life,
Look too easy.
As if I had no tests to pass.
Or obstacles to face.
Placed upon my path I had to erase.

And God?
Where was I?
And who were they?
To not have known they were doing this.
With a leaving me believing,
What I did to do to earn and get...
Had been my imagination.
So real I still feel,
If the rumors I heard about me were true,
All that praying on my knees to You to do...
Alone.
Would not have been necessary.
If those who were giving me all I wished,
Had shown me who they were.
Instead of having me believe,
Whatever I wanted I had to work for it!
