Where We Are Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Where We Are

Where we are,
As a people.
With technology at our fingertips.
Can not be claimed to place blame...
On others for decisions we have made.
Although convenient it had been,
Relying on rumors and gossip to depend upon.
When choosing between the keeping...
Of a kept selective memory.
Or pretending of having temporary amnesia.
Done easily to do believed.

"Guess who called me,
To say they had amnesia.
And discovered they caught it 'yesterday'! "

-Trust me.
No one can 'catch' amnesia.-

"Well...
I only know what I was told.
They say it is similar to getting a cold."

Those days are gone.
Along with the same aging excuses to make!
But not the placing of blame to claim,
How the doing of another...
Left them livid and nearly insane.
And these folks are quick,
To defame someone's name.

-Who is it spreading these lies? -

"Well...
You didn't hear this from me.
But it was..."
