Withering Tide Poem by Kewayne Wadley

Withering Tide

Before you appeared.
I guess you can say I always looked at life as being on an deserted island.
Stuck.
Watching the tide as it passes.
Left wondering am I truly living.
Like the hollow shell that covers the meat found inside coconuts.
They too swayed in the mist felt from the breeze of the tide crashing against the shore by my feet.
Pondering if this world is really round rather than the flat ground I've stared at for hours at a time.
Seeking a paradox away from the anxiety of the world around me. The birds continued to fly as the waves grew more furious crashing against the shore.
No longer the expectation of sea shells and sandcastles thought to withhold each bead of water that soaks each grain of sand.
Faultering due to gravities pull.
I've dreamed often. Wondering what it would be like to sail into the horizon.
Following the ocean until the sky ends. No longer wondering about where the different tides come from.
If it in fact was the same water devouring the shore each time.
Disappearing and reappearing taking different bits of sand and pebbles with it.
It wasn't until you reared over the horizon.
Small, then growing bigger as you approached closer.
Defying physics as the waves turned away. Crashing against the hull.
You are the ship that saved my life
