Call Me A Cab
A clever man with quip and pun,
Was Gilbert in Victorian age.
He wrote much comic verse for ‘Fun’,
And ‘pieces’ for the stage.
Whilst at the theatre, someone called
To him in style unpleasant,
And Mr. G. was quite appalled
When summoned like a peasant.
In witty terms he wrote or spoke,
(He used the pen-name, ‘Bab’)
And thought he’d have a little joke,
When told, “Call me a cab.”
“Now that, ” said Gilbert, “I shall do.”
He forthwith called the man some
kind of cab, “Four-wheeler, you!
