The Service Road
I’ve walked far down the service road
To see to where the darkness goes;
I’ve wandered by the town works park
Long past the farthest streetlight’s glow.
I’ve wandered down that long road dark
And seen the town’s odd busted parts,
The rusted wheels and glass all broke
And waiting for the wreckage yard.
The night there was thick as a cloak;
Only lost lights on through it poked;
And echoes of my stepping feet,
The only sound it deemed be spoke.
