Sid Watson, a native of Portsmouth, Virginia, was raised in Far Rockaway Queens, New York. His poetry was frequently published in Norfolk State University SpartanEcho school newspaper. Currently, he teaches mathematics and his second volume of poems, 'From the Inner Chamber, ' is due out for release March 2006. more »

Phenomenal Man

Hard-knock men wonder
Where about my hardness lies
I’m not a gangster, thug, roughneck
Or any of those hard-knock guys
When I try to explain my theory
Their eyes become leery
So, I say
It’s the heart that lies in the center of my chest
The boldness in my feet
The pride that I keep
I’m a man, phenomenally;
Phenomenal man,
That’s me

I’ve strolled the hard streets
Just as hard as they do
Getting where I have to go
To a woman
