The Garden Of Love

This is where I stop, in the Garden of Love,
Amidst rows of upturned trees,
Where flowers bloom, like fireworks, underground—
At a siren’s song the ripples on a stream
Have got frozen in motion, their legs still apart—
Lips would have skidded on glassy lips, had someone kissed—
And, in lead-melting sunlight, if for once I blinked,
Flapping its thousand-and-one wings like a flock of gulls
The whole garden would fly away into the convex sky—
Oh, how am I supposed to make it stay still!

(Translated from Bangla by the poet)
