A Cold Night

Well, hello there, stranger.
It's too cold an evening
to look so lonely-
have another glass
to help ward off both.
What a comfort
to meet someone like you tonight...
If only we'd crossed paths
a year or two ago.
when I invited you home,
I'd actually believe you'd stay
and hold me for a little while.

Don't be scared-
I know better now.
I'll watch you leave at dawn,
glad I may never see you again,
angry I'll always miss you.
I hope you'll remember me
as the beautiful woman from Sixth Street,
and not the girl
with tears...
