Fragrant In The Air (For Ken Saro Wiwa)

I sat in a cage,
christened stand by
the white wigged men
of black hide.

Swore the truth
to tell
and truth did I
not give a yard,
but marvels spring
down my veins

As the judge,
whether of gold
was he blessed,
or of diamond likes,
halt not just my mouth
to death, but also
my striving soul

In what do I solace?
