Big Sister

I admired you from afar.
With pretended disdain,
I ratted you out to Mom and Dad.

Never punished, you escaped,
And somehow I suffered,
Learning about loyalty
And unfairness in life.

When I grew up
And the days all became black
Because of what he did to me.
I turned to you and bared my soul
Cried into your arms
And told you things
I was scared to utter.

When the world died
And the light was extinguished,
I needed my sister
To hold me
Because I was scared of men
For a very long time.

You healed me.
