Empty Lovers

Still clung to his lover’s chest,
breathing in moist air,
the thought popped into his head.
Next to him in bed,
eyes flittered open, and his mind grew blank, once again.

“It’s only three,
she won’t return til five.”
His words, suggestive so,
burned, yet kept him alive,
in some ways.

“Smother me with kisses, my love.
Drown in my body, lover.”

A whole season later,
drinking coffee in secret,
the trace of something
swept through his mind and body.
Warm on his neck just then,
was his lover’s breath.
And it was lost, once ...
