The Glass Doll
I am afraid to hold you;
A fragile glass doll with delicate
Eyes and ears and nose
Nestled in your box of white wispy cotton
You’re beautiful in every angle of
The light, even as it reflects
Off your uneven sides
And fine-hewn features.
Oh God, I want to touch you.
But I daren’t. I don’t want to
Leave my fingerprints on you, and
Much worse, break you.
You’re just sitting there looking up at
Me; sitting in a position that
Displays the intricacy of your tiny arms
And legs, all glass.
God must have made you.
