Winter's Comfort

My friend, whose lonesome winds
howl through empty trees..
Whose barren fields lay silent
in this wintry breeze;

I walk within
your quiet solitude
How oft, your serenity
my anxious thoughts subdued.

time matters not,
and all troubles are resigned,
as if taken from my grasp,
from God's own hand divine.

And though the frozen earth
sets deathly still,
there is life, the birds still fly
amidst the frigid chill.

if i must layers wear
I will walk within your arctic air -
and take from me every care
for i find peace there.
