Kitchen Heirloom

It is very dark
while I rest
In between meals
inside this drawer

made of wood.
I have been around
a long time. Intially,
I lived in California.

I have traveled through the hands
of three generations.
I have settled down in eastern N.C.
for the time being. I belong to

Grandmother's granddaughter.
I am cold to the touch-
I am mean when I get going-
I am a red-head made of wood.

My body is made of steel.
My main purpose in life is to pirouette - gyrate-
and I listen
to the sound of her tune.
