Childhood Lament

Here I lie awake, unseen
From a future that was not foretold
And all that I have ever been
I was so many years ago

My mind it drifts and can't define
Any place that I call home
And for all the friends that I've called mine
I am most often found alone.

But I like alone and alone likes me-
A true companion on the page I write
And although I am not sure what is to be
I still dream of it at night

A silent death crawls this way
Slinking in the shadows so you can't see
It strikes not at night but in the day
And I know it comes for me
