5 December Sint Nicholas-Day.... Poem by Sylvia Frances Chan

5 December Sint Nicholas-Day....

Rating: 5.0

This month is as annually,
stormy weather
bitter cold
rapid wind

we have the Sint
coming tomorrow
yearly tradition
a warmest celebration

for every child
sweetest children will get
each a package

this Sint is called good holy man

with his helpers
he will give away
so many presents

the Sint is loved
he is fun
has so much word pun

see him on his white horse
on roofs of houses
constantly with his helpers

coldest December wind
makes us and the Sint
wear thick winterclothes

so that we feel warmed
by the caring atmosphere and love

the Sint is very very old

when I was a child
i knew him too
he was so mild
he is still so mild

he will never come by train
since he must come from Spain

he treats on his own birthday
in his own mild way

Long live the Sint!
he'll go for the kids
through the cold December chilly wind

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
HOW THE STORY GOES: Sinterklaas the same as St. Nicholas and his helpers come every year around the third week of November in The Netherlands Most of the times the wind is during the November and December-months very very cold, chilly and freezy. On 5 December the Sint and his helpers put packages in the homes of the children who have been sweet and brave. The Sint always spoils the kids with amazing packages. He knows by heart all the names of the kids in the Netherlands. All Dutch schools are celebrating Sint's BirthDAY, all Dutch families celebrate the Sint's BirthDAY on 5 December, they give each other also presents (anonymous) accompanied by a poem full of pun with a funny present, this is only for the adult, but the kids will receive the present from the Sint himself and his helpers, since the bag is very large with many many presents inside
