What Is Love? Poem by Sylvia Frances Chan

What Is Love?

Rating: 4.8

Love is love as we all understand
as far as our mind and heart can comprehend
it is the most caring heart at hand
and the sweetest mind to understand

Love is love as we all can understand
love is not that rude, harsh and brutal
love is that most tender, sweetest-touching total
it is not that competing factor personal

Love is that tender heart inside you
love is the understanding attitude
awaiting you in gratitude
to bloom and reach the helping hand too

Love is the complete formula
between you and the other constantly
no other gal in between nor fella
the calmness, the peace, the utmost me

Love is the emotion friendliest to us
never competing but a reaching hand
love gives our own tempo it be slow or fast
a constant calm feel, easy to mend, never to bend.

My gratitude and love to SSK
about this subject is never known to Dr.TIT.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
WHAT IS in fact LOVE? A unique word with a unique answer.
Each kind of love has its own meaning and details.
I try to describe The LOVE that is necessary
in the truest sense, the mutual love finally
that is based upon equality between a man and a woman.
No any brutality or rudeness.
Full understanding at last and
being in a happy easeful state constantly.

Of course there will be sadness and sorrow,
but understanding each other with best approached
and with patience, peace and calmness,
that is what I call LOVE,
that is TRUE LOVE between a man and a woman.
No infidelity, no lies or cheats.
As soon as cheats and lies are already since the start,
then it is no love anymore, but a great lie and a big cheat.

With such individuals, one cannot be tied all the life.
This poem goes about an ordinary love we all wish eagerly.
There is patience and true understanding
in TRUE LOVE based upon equality,
it be in marriage or togethership.
I am the only poetess who is repeating constantly,
I cannot help it, I have improved the self,
but each time I discover that I still must
correct the-self from repeating too much.

You can understand this better if you know
that I had been a teacher of the Junior High School
and after graduation, I became a lecturer of students.

Thank you for reading my Notes belonging to the poem above,

Of all love poems that I have read, this is the most meaningful and encompassing. How did I miss this wonderful poem of the great Poetess? Loved these opening lines, to wit; ' Love is the most caring heart at hand..... Love is the sweetest mind to understand. '
