586. Bogatir Poem by Jaden Knight

586. Bogatir

Bogatir kneels in prayer in the family Chapel
built by one of his forebears 300 years before
illuminated by tall white candles
his sword on the altar glitters under the dancing flames

His prayers are only disturbed
by the creaking of his armour as he changes position
he doesn't heed the tolling bell
as it sounds the hour of midnight

He seeks guidance from the hidden ones
and forgiveness from his fathers for his failures
the towering statues of his ancestors
stare down at him in silent accusation

His armour is not the only weight on his mind
his heart is heavy with sorrow
his voice falters as he continues to appeal
as memories swirl around him

At dawn a hidden voice rings out aloud
'you do not need our guidance
leave this place and carry on your life
you needn't come back until the end
what you seek is within yourself
as we will always be with you'
