A Jester's Game Poem by Aphrodite Anastasia Menegaki

A Jester's Game

Rating: 5.0

Ten cards to each player, one at a time
Is it luck or choice, which are yours, which are mine
Ten cards; numbers, figures, hearts and a spade
Not many colours, just a red and black shade
The top card on the table now it's shown
It's a King of hearts sitting on his tall throne
Next card has no diamond, no spade, and no heart
He isn't but a joker fool, who thinks himself smart
With an eye for attention and glory, so keen
Pretending to be a Knight or perhaps a Queen
Or just a number, so he may stay next to a King
He'll do anything for that, even dance or sing
He's only a fool, dressed in a fancy disguise
Jokers always made a life out of their lies
But I guess the King sees none of that
Not even the bells on the jester's hat
Or he doesn't like knights nor wants a queen
He has a joker fool to show something in between
Is it cards or perhaps a life's real game?
There's no luck, only your own choices to blame
Cards one by one are on the table
All but the joker and a King now unable
Game is over and the King is in despair
His fancy friend wasn't meant to play fair
Now, how to stop all the rumours that fester
The King had for Knight and Queen a jester
The only thing to hear is the joker's laugh
But here's a secret that's true and not bluff
All your cards are important but can be gone
The one who loses is the one holding a joker lone
