A Mile Away Poem by Kewayne Wadley

A Mile Away

I've prayed for days like this,
Moment's where time eludes the rapture of thought,
A simple sensation, hidden behind the stars of your eye,
The haiku's of each tear drop left behind on days joy overwhelmed all else,
All of this I watched in a dream, meanwhile hoping you shared the same dream,
I watched you fall asleep in my arms without fear,
Fear that if you should fall that I won't be there to catch you,
I watched myself kiss your forehead as your fingers lashed tighter,
Deep sighs left behind in a single thought,
Simple pleasures given by the touch eyes can give,
I watched myself become lost,
Lost in infatuation,
Lost in the way your hands stared,
Wishing they'd speak,
mine spoke first,
At first,
nothing but silence filled the space between fingers,
They throbbed at first sight,
Such need, such want,
As the fear of first impressions last a life time,
At this point I learned the definition of urgency,
Just as the sky gives birth to day,
It also breathes as night takes away its breath,
Sharing the same horizon,
Giving way to reason as purpose lays in the wrinkles of the stars,
If only it were that simple,
If only answers blossomed quicker,
Late at night,
Once the world lays its head down to sleep,
I find myself laying beside the thought of you,
Wondering the difference between reality and fiction,
If I'd ever really know,
The look your eyes given when they first open,
An everlasting question as the sun softly tip-toes across your face,
The promises made when we were young,
The pleasure bestowed, a vow made to each others breath,
Simplicity of the seconds we thought would never grow old,
The secrets that we sown were never known,
As the sky gave birth to the sun in our horizon,
How the stars were afraid to peek as the touch of your skin blossomed,
Soft ebony hands that trembled, once cold,
Quickly erupted into the heat felt between you and I,
The hours sadly said goodbye as they rushed into eternity,
If only heaven were a mile away,
If only it were that simple,
